The Essence
There are five specific combinations that birth a 'Great Being' (Mahapurusha). These are not subtle; they are the signatures of avatars, emperors, and legends. They occur when a non-luminary planet (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) is in a Kendra (Angle) and in its Own or Exalted sign. This creates a pure, unadulterated expression of that element.
Classical Verse
"Ruchaka, Bhadra, Hamsa, Malavya, Shasha iti pancha yogah. (Phaladeepika)."
Modern Translation
1. Ruchaka Yoga (Mars): Mars in Aries/Scorpio/Capricorn in a Kendra. Result: The Commander. Physical strength, courage, police/military success. 2. Bhadra Yoga (Mercury): Mercury in Gemini/Virgo in a Kendra. Result: The Scholar. Intelligence, speech, mathematics, commerce. 3. Hamsa Yoga (Jupiter): Jupiter in Sagittarius/Pisces/Cancer in a Kendra. Result: The Sage. Wisdom, purity, respect, spiritual leadership. 4. Malavya Yoga (Venus): Venus in Taurus/Libra/Pisces in a Kendra. Result: The Artist. Beauty, luxury, vehicles, fame. 5. Shasha Yoga (Saturn): Saturn in Capricorn/Aquarius/Libra in a Kendra. Result: The Chief. Authority over masses, endurance, political power.
Practical Insight
The 'Bhanga' (Cancellation) Clause. A Mahapurusha Yoga is powerful, but if the Moon is weak or the Sun is debilitated, the yoga may not manifest fully. The person may have the talent of a Great Man but lack the opportunity. The remedy is to strengthen the Luminaries (Sun/Moon) to provide a platform for the Yoga to shine.
