The Essence
The Full Moon (Purnima) and New Moon (Amavasya) are the two poles of the lunar battery. Purnima is the maximum projection of the Mind; Amavasya is the maximum absorption of the Soul. They are not just days; they are portals.

Practical Insight
The 'Amavasya' Curse & Blessing. Being born on Amavasya is often considered a dosha because the Moon (Mind) has no light. The native may struggle with childhood health or emotional connection. However, it creates the 'Mahakala' potential—the ability to transcend the mind entirely and reach enlightenment. The remedy is listening to others (since you have no light to project) and serving the ancestors.
Modern Translation
Purnima: The Moon is 180 degrees from the Sun. The Mind reflects the Soul perfectly. Emotions are amplified. Be careful of mania or losing control. Amavasya: The Moon is 0 degrees from the Sun. The Mind is burnt by the Soul. Emotions are hidden. Great for 'Pitru Tarpan' (feeding ancestors).
Go Deeper
Look at the Moon phase in any chart. Is it waxing (growing) or waning (dying)? This tells you if the person's life is an 'Inhale' (gathering resources) or an 'Exhale' (sharing wisdom).
