Kshudhita (Starved) & Trushita (Thirsty)

The Essence

In the grand theatre of karma, a planet is not merely a static rock in space; it is a sentient force with moods, appetites, and vulnerabilities. Even a planet with high Shadbala (strength) can fail to deliver results if it is psychologically tormented. Just as a king cannot rule effectively when famished (Kshudhita) or parched (Trushita), a planet cannot deliver its promise if it is emotionally depleted by its neighbors. These specific states, known as part of the Lajjitadi Avasthas, reveal not 'what' a planet can do, but 'how it feels' while doing it—uncovering the hidden roots of insatiable desire and dissatisfaction in a horoscope.

Classical Verse

"Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (Ch. 45, Slokas 14-16): 'Ripu-kshetra-gate vaapi ripu-drishti-yute athava, Shani-yukte kshudhitah syat... Jala-rashau ripu-drishte shubha-drishti-vivarjite, Trushitah sa...'"

Modern Translation

Maharishi Parashara defines these states based on the planet's environment and company. 1. Kshudhita (Starved): A planet becomes Starved if it occupies an enemy's sign, is aspected by an enemy, or is conjoined with Saturn. This creates a state where the planet is devoid of resources; it is like an engine trying to run without fuel. It causes the native to feel perpetually 'lacking' or deprived regarding the significations of that planet. 2. Trushita (Thirsty): A planet becomes Thirsty if it sits in a watery sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) and is aspected by a malefic, without receiving any aspect from benefics. This indicates an emotional void—a frantic, unquenchable thirst for the planet's significations, often leading to obsession or weak morals to obtain them.

Practical Insight

The professional secret here is to stop trying to 'strengthen' these planets with gemstones. Feeding a gemstone to a 'Starved' planet often amplifies the hunger, not the satisfaction. The true remedy is 'Annadana' (giving of food) or 'Jaladana' (giving of water) specifically related to the Karakatwa (nature) of the afflicted planet. For a Kshudhita planet, the native usually has a 'poverty mindset' in that area of life (e.g., Kshudhita Venus = fear of never having enough love). The remedy is to consciously give away what you fear you lack, thereby breaking the psychological cycle of starvation.

Go Deeper

Open your chart and look for the 'Great Deprivers.' Do you have any planet conjoined Saturn, or sitting in an enemy's sign while receiving an aspect from another enemy? That planet is Kshudhita. Identify the house it rules—this is the area of life where you must stop demanding to be fed, and start feeding others.
